About the Event
ENGLISH TEXT BELLOW
QiGong is also described as "a way of absorbing the essence of life and expelling the body with its flow".
Winter is the season of preservation and storage. Snow falls, lakes freeze, plants retreat to the soil, and all nature rests, waiting for the return of abundance (Qi energy) that is typical of the spring season.
If we ignore the winter rhythm of nature, it can cause weakening or even injury to the circulation of the kidney meridian, known from the text Inner Book of the Yellow Emperor as "wei jue". Subsequently, with the return of spring, we can feel general weakness, non-reactive muscles, arthritis, headaches and neck pain or degeneration of bones and tendons. It can be compared to a confused seed that has lost its ability to sprout shoots and roots with the coming warmth of spring.
According to the ancient sages, Qi moves up and down, in and out of the body, thus driving physical and biological activities while we are alive and breathing. If we have enough Qi, we will be physically strong and healthy. If we lack Qi, we will be weak and sick. And when we come to the point where all the Qi energy is used up, our life goes out.
QiGong or "the ability to move energies" is a method that is used to supply energy to the body so that life can flow within us.
During this course we will learn how the sages adapted their habits to go in harmony with the natural rhythm of winter and prevent the leakage of yang Qi (the Sun of the body's internal system). We will practice, step by step, an important essential skill in QiGong known as "Microcosmic Orbit". It is the ability to circulate energy around the torso and store it in the DanTien (a diamond-shaped 'rice field') When we achieve Qi energy storage, we can transfer it from the DanTien to the rest of the body. And for this we will use "Gongs", in other words movement exercises. We will use special exercises from "8 silk brocades", which are designed for the winter months so that we are healthy and strong in the spring.
Optimum health and a long disease-free life is our ultimate goal.

Preserving the Sun – A QiGong Course for Winter
On this course, we practice moving the preserving energy of winter into the body so we can fully appreciate the joys of springtime.
QiGong has been described as 'a way to absorb the essence of life and nourish it's flow throughout the body.'
Winter is a time of conservation and storage. Snow falls, lakes freeze, plants retreat underground and all of nature rests, awaiting the return of the abundance of Qi energy in Springtime.
Ignoring the patterns of nature in winter may result in injury to the circulation of the kidney meridian, known in the Yellow Emperor Classic text as 'wei jue'. When the spring returns, we may experience overall weakness, unresponsive muscles, arthritis, head and neck pain or the degeneration of bones and tendons. This is like the confused seed, which has lost its ability to vigorously sprout shoots and roots when the warmth of spring returns.
According to the ancient sages, Qi moves up, down, in and out of the body to fuel all physical and biological activities for as long as we are alive and breathing.
If we have plenty of Qi, we will be physically strong. If there is a deficiency of Qi, we will become weak and ill. When all of the Qi in a body is used up, that life is extinguished.
'QiGong' or 'skill at moving energies' is the method which is used to renew the supply of Qi energy to the body and sustain life.
During this course, we investigate how the ancients adjusted their habits to follow the natural patterns of winter and to prevent the loss of Yang Qi (the 'sun' of the body's internal system). We practice, step by step, an important foundational skill in QiGong, known as 'Little Heaven' or 'Microcosmic Orbit'. This is the ability to circulate energy around the torso and store it in the 'DanTien' or lozenge-shaped 'rice field'.
Once we accomplish this storage, we can move qi from the DanTien to the rest of the body. These are the 'Gongs' or movement exercises. We use some special exercises from the '8 Silk Brocades' which are designed for use during the winter months in order to be at our best when the Spring eventually comes.
Optimum health and a long, disease-free life is our ultimate objective.
