About the Event

(ENGLISH VERSION BELOW)

We invite you to contact improvisation (KI) classes. KI was founded in 1972 (this year celebrates 50 years) in America, where a group of dancers around Steve Paxton decided to break away from the form of stylized dance and began to explore the possibilities of movement that does not have choreography - improvisation. They delved more and more into the physicality of the body, physical laws, biomechanics of movement, principles of falling or shared center of gravity.

The form has evolved and continues to evolve. It is a living form that "forces" you to be in the present moment and react to what is currently happening in the dance, where the body mass moves and how to follow it, change its direction, transform, rise and fall with it.

It is a dance without choreography, a constantly changing form in the contact of two or more body masses. He perceives touch not only through the palms, but through every part of the body with regard to the physical structure, its solid and vulnerable parts, which can take different amounts of weight.

The classes are suitable for people who already have experience and for those who do not yet have experience (open level). They will be conducted in Slovak and/or English, as we also open space for people from other countries living in BA.

What does CI enable?

- Better understand (not only) your body and movement (biomechanics, anatomy,...)

- Improvement of movement and expressive skills

- Getting to know somatic approaches in movement (different forms of bodywork and ways of entering into contact)

- Community building

- Supports creativity, invites curiosity and playfulness

- It provides space for self-reflection and understanding of your psychological mechanisms in topics such as fears, relationships, trust, own resources, own strength, letting yourself be seen, creativity, etc.

And what does contact improvisation look like?

Magdaléna Takačová

Co-founder of Movement LAB and OZ 4Arts Therapy, dance-movement therapist, coach, instructor of contact improvisation, facilitator of authentic movement and embodiment meditations. My many years of experience in leading movement, dance and dance-music sessions led me to study dance-movement therapy, which I completed my 4-year training in the Czech Republic in 2017. For 10 years, I danced in the integrated dance group LEN TAK TAK, where people danced with and without a handicap. I was part of the creative and production process of performance projects. In 2019, I completed coaching training (according to ICF standards). In 2020, I completed the certified Teacher's Training at the Holistic Dance Institute in Vienna. I attended a number of foreign educational workshops focused on contemporary dance, applied anatomy in movement, bodywork, contact improvisation and somatic movement. In 2021, I entered TRE training (trauma release exercises) and in 2022 I completed contact improvisation training in Poland

ENGLISH VERSION

We would like to invite you to Contact Improvisation classes (CI). CI was developed in 1972 by Steve Paxton and company in America. They decided to release from stylized dance and started to explore movement without choreography – improvisation. More and more they deepened their knowledge and experiences in physicality of the body, physical principles, biomechanics of movement, principles of falling and shared center of gravity.

The form has developed and is still developing. It is a vivid form which "forces" you to be in the present moment and to react to what is happening in the dance, where body mass is moving, how to follow it, how to change its direction, modulate it, lift it and fall with it.

It is a dance without choreography, ever changing form in touch of two or more body masses. The touch is considered not just by hands but by any part of the body. It regards different body parts and their ability to carry the weight.

Classes are open level and are led in Slovak and/or in English (depends on participants) so it can be open to foreigners too.

How can you benefit from CI?
